Mary & Sergio – May 7, 2011

New Bedford sweethearts Mary & Sergio really lucked out with the weather!  With a forecast of rain and bluster, we were delighted that our morning engagement session was greeted instead with blue skies and a warm, springtime sun!  We are very excited to photograph Mary & Sergio’s wedding this Fall!

Ofelia & Nathan met up with these two love-birds at our Dartmouth, Massachusetts home-studio shortly after 9:30am.  After catching up on Mary & Sergio’s latest wedding plan developments (and some much needed coffee!), we all piled into Ofelia’s Accord for downtown New Bedford!

Downtown New Bedford offers an amazing blend of historical and contemporary charm!  Complete with stoic and impressive stone & brick buildings, cobblestone streets and traditional street lamps dating back to the early 1800’s, downtown New Bedford provides a unique and gorgeous backdrop for any photo session!

We parked along historic William Street, right across from the New Bedford City Hall.  In the heart of historic New Bedford, William Street is smack dab in the middle of many of our favorite New Bedford backdrops.  Among the most breath-taking of New Bedford’s historical buildings is the New Bedford Free Public Library.  Nestled among the blossoming cherry trees, the Library provides immense grecian columns and cascading stone stairs (the Library, however, may perhaps be best known for its world-famous Whaleman’s Statue).

Mid-morning light in downtown New Bedford provides a romantic, soft feel.  With this in mind, we wanted to infuse some of the unique texture and history of New Bedford into the session.

We began our session atop the stairs at the Library among the columns, and continuing below on the stairs, and over by the Whaleman’s Statue.    Crossing the street, we found the most beautiful blooming cherry tree on the corner of Pleasant & William Streets.  We couldn’t help but show off Mary’s glistening engagement ring!

Having completed a blend of photojournalism and formals downtown, we decided that we also wanted to include an ocean/beach backdrop to our session.  Just a five-minute drive down Route 18-South from downtown New Bedford, we continued our session at the landing along West Rodney French Boulevard down New Bedford’s extreme South End.

Featuring striking panoramic views of Buzzard’s Bay, the peninsula of New Bedford’s South End juts out into the ocean.  From this unique vantage point, you can glimpse the mass of Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket and the Elizabeth Islands on a clear day.
